Mundi-Das-Korden
Mundi-Das-Korden is a greying Male Cerean? who has served on the Jedi Council longer than any other Jedi presently on it. He has held a seat for four years after securing the votes to replace his onetime Master Volek Suun?, who stepped down to deal with his ill health. Considered a moderate in the previous Traditionalist vs. Progressive squabbles, he has reluctantly participated in the assumption of Cabinet powers by the Council as a temporary means to preserve the Republic after the Senate? dissolved into a half-attended session that was marked more by angry accusations and fist fights than debate and policy. He was leaning towards swinging his vote in favor of accepting the pleas of several senators who were asking the Jedi to take over before the fall of Coruscant, but he was finally forced to accept their offers after a harrowing escape with Sargis Kalpak? and Radhe Tanjva and orchestrated by Khadija Nasiri. He was able to secure the position of Officer of Justice, which he saw as most crucial to limiting the powers of the new Council.
The background of Mundi-Das-Korden is mostly marked by successful mediations over the past thirty years. He has been renowned for his ability to successfully mediate disputes, mostly legal, between parties who were either at or nearly at each others throats. Very rarely did he ever have to use force when doing this, which made him somewhat unprepared when the hostilities erupted and he was of marginal use in combat. He owes his life to Nasiri as he was rapidly running out of room to retreat before she scattered the Sith forces enough to let them escape, and was instrumental in securing her position on the Council.
Responsibilities
As Officer of Justice he is responsible for maintaining the often labyrinthine legal code of the Republic and ensuring that the Order maintains its fairness in dealing with all parties. He has launched himself and a small cadre of Jedi and lawyers into a review and simplification of Republic law, and has acquiesced under some pressure to allowing the Officer of Knowledge?, Nep Dllr? review many of the modifications and suggest some of his own. The pressure has mostly been applied on laws that make Republic law closer in intent and form to the Jedi Code, which he is wary of pushing too hard on a populace that hasn't lived within it. He has been attempting to coordinate with Khidyr Tyamzashe, the Guardian of the Distinction of Will?, on her attempts to enhance measures to prevent any further losses of Jedi to the Dark Side. His initial attempts were rebuffed, and he is currently unsure of what to make of that.
Other Politics
He is concerned about the efforts to enshrine the Order and the Code into the everyday life of the citizens, although he cannot disagree with many of the arguments put forward to push it. He believes that the citizens are free to choose, and it's the responsibility of the Order to correct those who go wrong, not to provide rules to keep them from going wrong in the first place. But he has to agree that it could lessen the severity of Sith uprisings, which have been alarmingly frequent in the past hundred years. He is working with the regional representatives, Mandirali Gocek?, Zuljeta Letele?, and Cro Zalk? to find instances in the planetary law of their regions that could create conflict in the future and set up regional review committees. He tries to limit his exposure to the general politics of the Council, but fears he may have to get involved sometime soon.
The offer of peace with the Davrosh faction of the Sith has left him wary, but he supported the negotiations because he could not conceive of a strong reason to remain at war when peace offered itself as an alternative. Even though there is no direct contact with the Davrosh faction, he is convinced that it will at least split the attention of the Sith forces and allow the Republic to do better against the remaining factions. The emergence of TCV has worried him, and also caused great damage to his legal modification notes in its spread through the datanets of Corellia. He is suspicious of the Sith negotiators, but for now is taking them at their word on the origin of the virus.
Following the death of Zeltar Hale and the arrival of the Dark Swarm... as well as the reconstitution of the council on Nubia... he became the new head of the council.
