Khadija Nasiri

Khadija Nasiri was always interested in growing the Order, in preserving its heritage, history, and culture no matter what happened. Though not a staunch traditionalist, she leaned that way for years. She found a place in the training hierarchy where she was able to work on imparting some of the knowledge and history to the younglings. There she developed ideas on how the Order was failing itself on its recruitment policies. Her proposals led to several rebukes from the Jedi Council, but for the insistence with which she pushed them rather than for the ideas themselves. They were placed under advisement. As the council began churning members a few years ago, she decided to suggest her ideas to the probable candidates to get onto the council, finding those whose beliefs aligned with hers. The churn was ultimately too much, as the council turned itself over several times in the last few years without resolving many of the pressing issues of the day, let alone her recruitment policies.

Then came the horrendous losses incurred in the Hutt-Republic War? and finally during the rise and fall of Bellisarius. The devastation wrought upon the order was astounding. Khadija and Valis? engineered the evacuation of the trainees as Coruscant fell, finding a way to ensure the survival of the Order. She followed this up by successfully gathering and withdrawing several other Jedi from the Jedi Temple? as it was being overrun, including Sargis Kalpak? and Mundi-Das-Korden of the Council, as well as her Padawan?, Radhe Tanjva. This escape and the authority that followed it were sufficient to ensure her election to the Council as it reformed on Corellia in the position of Preserver of the Order?. Her politics were well known, and it was believed that she would be the best Jedi to direct the rebuilding of the Order. It appears that impression may be correct, but many who supported her before are worried that she may not rebuild the Order they once knew.

Responsibilities

As Preserver of the Order? she is entrusted with maintaining and revising the training curriculum for the Padawans? that have not yet graduated to one-on-one teaching from their own Jedi Masters. She is also in charge of the recruitment policies of the Order, i.e. what are the criteria under which the Order will accept or even demand a student for training. Under the Galactic Republic the laws were such that the Jedi, if they found children to be Force-Sensitive, could take them for training without a parent's permission. But the effort to detect such children was spotty and undirected, and only mandated when the training facilities were showing a potential lack of trainees. Councillor Nasiri is also interested in standardizing the curriculum for mid-level students at the outer Praxeums, such as the one on Praconis Minor. While the regional training centers allow a little bit of specialization to the area the Jedi-to-be are likely to serve, they also make it difficult for some of the non-Temple? students to relate with the political core of the Order. Her efforts are starting with negotiations with the regional council members, Mandirali Gocek?, Zuljeta Letele?, and Cro Zalk?, but the independence of the latter two is making progress slow.

Other Politics

Nasiri is interested in growing the order quickly to meet the needs of the war, and so is coordinating with Tercez Rul'yka? on the creation of several non-Jedi, but lightly trained Force-Sensitive groups who can meet special needs in the conflict. She is also working with him on a plan to scour the military for those who have exhibited Force-Sensitivity. She is supportive of the efforts of Errsk Ek'tvo to bring about a unified Republic/Jedi Order that can withstand future Sith uprisings, and possibly prevent them in the first place. Her efforts to locate all Force-Sensitives is a major component of that plan, as it would limit if not eliminate the recruiting base for the Sith. These meetings have created some tension between her and some of her supporters, such as Sargis Kalpak? and Mundi-Das-Korden, as they are more wary of the Jedi gathering too much power. She is less concerned with the social engineering and the ultimate position of the Order within the Republic than she is of ensuring that the Jedi are numerous and strong enough to prevent and defeat any future Sith uprisings.
