The crew finally meets up with J'ror, Vraile, and Aenea on AS4311-3. It is decided that J'ror and Vraile will attempt to work on discovering the source of the Dark Swarm and drawing the attention of the Sith Empire so the rest of the crew can journey through the Kathol Rift and find the Shadows of which Aenea speaks. She believes they hold the solution to the Dark Swarm that is menacing the Republic.

They take both J'ror's ship, Chance Encounter, and their own so as to maximize the manufacturing capabilities for whatever they must deal with on the other side. J'ror and Vraile depart on her ship. Splitting up like this makes it difficult to coordinate jumps, especially when navigating by instinct. Multiple jumps are required to get through the Rift, and amazingly they manage to make three, three-day jumps before getting separated. In this time, Christina begins having dreams of spiders and a bone-and-flesh palace of Nakail's, which she wanders before getting killed by Nakail each night. Igashu is concerned, but Chris quickly clams up after the third jump. Apparently her dreams have gotten better.

However, everyone else begins experiencing terrifying dreams about this time, similarly of giant spiders and centipedes. Some are in caverns and tunnels, others are onboard ship. Four more jumps totaling twelve days allows both parties to get to the other side of the rift, where they hope to find each other before they find trouble.
