The New Disciplines

The Core Disciplines

1) Artificer

The Artificer which is all ready a part of the Jedi Disciplines is still a relevant branch to be studied within the Jedi curriculum. It focuses on many aspects of society that are necesary for at least some if not most Jedi to understand, and definitely can warrant for Jedi to delve deep into the teachings of this discipline.

2) Factotum

The factotum is a means of graduation rather then accomplishing ones training as a Jedi. All of the disciplines except this one really focus on preparing the Jedi for a roll in society. While there is a benefit in being diverse it is also important for a student to make decisions in their training and should be used for initial training, and to encourage students to think about if not initially but maybe eventually choosing a more structured discipline.

3) Investigator

While not being a currently sanctioned discipline there are advantages to the teachings that were involved. There should really never be a secret society of Jedi working outside the knowledge of the order/republic. This can cause rifts and does not allow for proper over seeing of their actions. There is importance of the Jedi to learn the uses of investigation though. This tradition could be of use to the order if not for anything else then to rethink and adjust how it was done previously.

4) Meditative

There will always be a place for the meditative amongst the Jedi. While we have a strong religious background we will always need the meditatives to be there to help us when we do run morally astray.

5) Naturalist

The naturalists will play the same role as they always have. Possibly a more specialized role then what has been previously given. But then again a more specialized to what they are. By adding new traditions it allows for the naturalists to focus more on understanding nature and learning how the force may allow us to influence it then to split the focus between nature and human nature.

6) Warrior

This class has always been represented in the wrong perspective. When really have the Jedi been a warrior. We have been Knights whose goals were to protect those that were not capable of doing it themselves. We have been soldiers tasked to save the republic from the grasps of the Sith, but truelly have we ever needed an outright warrior? The warrior class is more easily described by two new traditions. That of the legal council, and the military advisor.

New Disciplines

The idea of the New Disciplines is to use the old Core Disciplines as the elements of a skills matrix. Jedi will need to be cross-trained in the future, just as they attempt to excel at everything they are told to do. The new training will reflect the reality of the modern galaxy.
