Geb governs the yearly cycle of birth and death.

The earth nurtures food. The food is gathered and eaten. More living things are born. Geb does not provide enough food for these new mouths. Each creature wars, and those who can control the most of Geb's body prosper. The blood of the fallen nurtures Geb, and she trades the fallen souls to her husband Horon. Geb produces more food... and the cycle continues, with only the strong able to survive.

It is Geb who holds Bellisarius prisoner between his ravages of the earth, and it is she who releases him into the world.
