Wuqin

The Wuqin system, named for the fourth planet from its sun, contains 8 planets. The closest two to the primary (Yah and Yee) are hot, dense, and gaseous. The third planet (Sah) is an unremarkable rockball, apart from its very rapid axial rotation. The fifth planet (Mmn) is a methane gas giant sporting twin ring systems, several moons, a strong magnetosphere, and a variety of simplistic life forms. The sixth planet (Low) is barely habitable during its summer, but much of the atmosphere liquifies during winter nights. The final two planets (Bah and Chah), both with large nitrogen/methane oceans orbit around a common center of gravity and are orbited by six major moons, each large asteroids. The asteroid fields of the system have been extensively mined, and the remaining rock was diverted into a gas giant, the primary, or out of the system entirely as mining was completed.

Today, Wuqin is an almost entirely agrarian planet. Low tech solutions are used for every day problems, but there is one major city/seaport/spaceport near the equator and a federation of nomadic medical personel who make use of modern techniques. Half of the planet's surface is one large land mass, with an additional 10% accounted for by islands. Most of that major land mass is made up of arable land, and 70% of that arable land is devoted to the irrigation of milirice paddies. Milirice is a genetically modified variety of the common grain which contains additional protein and nutrients. It is possible, if not desirable, to live on just milirice and water. Wuqin produces far more food than is consumed, even though the agricultural practices are managed for stability rather than maximum short term output. Consequently, Wuqin's major export is food.

The settlers of Wuqin initally set out to establish a modern, self suffiicent world with a high level of technical infrastructure, but contained within it a vocal minority which wished to return to a simpler way of life. Over hundreds of years, the minority became a majority, and technology was gradually scaled back unless a strong need for it could be presented. In many respects, today, technological advancement is seen as bad or undesirable. The basic philosophy of a citizen of Wuqin can best be summed by as 'Confusian/ Buddhist' with many jedi influences sprinkled on top. An educational system selects bright young children to join the government bureau system.

During the more technologically advanced period of Wuqin's history, daughter colonies were sent out. One such colony included Nantel, which helps to explain the superficial similarities between both planet's human populations.
