Dorian's story is one of tragic misunderstanding.
His past is one that desires to be forgotten, and Dorian does his best to oblige it. His early childhood was unremarkable, and his young adulthood would have been as well, had his parents not discovered him and his best friend engaging in more than friendly behavior in the woods near their home. Both Dorian and his friend were exiled from thier town, but their differences soon drove them apart... though the travelling showsman Dorian took up with on the road may have also factored into the split.
For several years, Dorian travelled with the showsman, and became an apprentice of sorts, learning many of the tricks of the trade, including the basic concepts of illusion magic. When his eyes settled on the son of a nobleman while passing through the family's country estate, he took his leave and charmed his way into an art tutoring position. He traveled with the family to their home in Kardia City and formed a deeply educational relationship with the son. Unfortunately, the boy's father took a good deal of interest in his son's education, and upon discovering Dorian's curriculum, he managed to have Dorian thrown into Xartalca Prison for "conspiring against the Throne."
Three years of confinement in Xartalca have squashed Dorian's carefree youth, and left an embittered adult in its place. When offered a chance to leave Xartalca behind, Dorian leapt at the opportunity. At best, he may be given a chance to start over and let his past be truly forgotten. At least, he will escape the tedium of the Xartalcan guardsmen.
