8.3 Comparison of Early Results

This section addresses briefly the performance improvement gained by having better optimized flow control algorithms, based on the data from the previous two test runs.

Table 8.3 juxtaposes the statistics of both tests, and including a measure of the factor of increase for the second test. Note especially the 21.7 factor increase in bandwidth (that's a 2000% improvement!)

Measurement 2/26 Result 2/27 Result Factor of Increase
Total Data Acknowledged 516.100 KBytes 1068.766 KBytes 2.071
Total Transmission Time 54.215 seconds 5.175 seconds 0.095
Network Bandwidth Utilization 9.520 KBytes/second 206.525 KBytes/second 21.69
Average Round Trip Time 103.6 milliseconds 16.9 milliseconds 0.163
Average Window Size 3.9 packets 10.7 packets 2.744
Table 8.3: Comparison between 'C' tests of 2/26/97 and 2/27/97

To avoid any confusion regarding the differences in scale between the two tests, figure 8.7 shows both test's bytes acknowledged versus time curves on the same plot.
