Next: Digital Sound Effects Up: Automated Cueing Previous: Distributed Computing Compact DiscsEach workstation contains a CD-ROM drive, and software provides much of the same functionality that one would find on a home CD player, with the bonus that it is automated with this system. A CD may be cued to any given track, and any given time frame within that track. CDs may then be resumed for playback of the CD, stopped, or ejected from the CD-ROM drive.In the current implementation of SMSurround, two CD-ROM drives were used, however, support for an unlimited number of drives is in the software, it only requires some additional coding. It is hoped in a later implementation that support for CD-ROM changer drives will be added.
