BoccageI made a master of the bank from balsa and interior filler. Then I made a Silicone mould and cast until I was crazy lengths of bank in resin (PU) I the drilled five holes in each large enough to take bits of cocktail stick glued in with PVA as the fit was tight. I then sprayed the banks darks brown and then flocked them with a Static grass and flock mix stuck on with PVA. Then I raggedly cut lengths of Rubberised horse hair and after brushing the spikes on the banks with PVA stuck the lengths of RHH on them. Once dry, I then PVA coated the RHH and foliated it with a mix of Woodland Scenics flocks of various greens. Et Viola! Miles of Bocage hedge that gets an annual outing as it takes a while to set up and put away. I made my bocage in 2,3 and 4 inch lengths so that it was easier to add gateways etc. I use Furnace/AC Filters, cut up with scissors, and glued to balsa bases. I spray on adhesive glue and then pad on fine ground lichen and colored powder found in model shops. Sponges were rather too dense. Wire wool might work but I have not tried it yet. I have some sort of pillow stuffing that makes pretty good white some as is or I have dyed some black (really badly) which is used for black/grey smoke though it was intended to be used for trees and hedges. It is again a little too solid to work well for this but it is cheap. Other fibres might work, wool would be too floppy but there must be others. |
