FOWGermanArmyPHASE I Open the box and start unpacking all the blisters. I tend to save the big blister packs as sorting trays for Troops, vehicle parts, and the artillary. PHASE Xacto Blade Start going through each figure and with a sharp Xacto Blade remove all flash, seam lines blah and blahs from each individual soldier. You are going to be there for a while. Start sorting your figures by pose. After a while, take a look at your fingers, you will notice a silvery white substance on them. That is the Mold Release on the figures used to aid in casting and releasing the minis from the molds. Go through each figure again a pose at a time. When you look at figures of the same pose you will find that they have the same seams, flash, trimmings, etc... Take a file or emory board and file the helmets so that they are smooth and rounded. Get rid of that mould line. PHASE Fun Tack Popsicle Sticks Tack all your figures to popsicle sticks. You should be able to fit 5 figures per stick. Do not overcrowd them too much because this will give you less room to work. Try to keep similar poses on the same stick. Prime your figures BLACK. You may want to do this with several light coats. Make sure every part is covered. You might want to do a couple coats in black primer and then go over the mini with a slightly thinned black paint to make sure it gets into all the nooks a crannies. EDITORS NOTE: I tried a Grey Primer and this color easily hid with some of the colors used on the first and second passes, meaning I had a lot of missed spots. RESEARCH PHASE Paint your base color. Make sure you get the entire mini in that color. If you are using Vallejo's like me, I would suggest going over the mini at least twice, maybe three times to ensure proper coverage. |
